What it is

The current Orin Nano Developer Kit with Super mode unlocked in software. 6-core Cortex-A78AE, 1024-core Ampere GPU, 8GB LPDDR5, camera headers, GPIO, M.2 NVMe. Existing kits get the boost with a JetPack update.

Who it is for

Robotics students, homelab people wiring cameras, and anyone who wants a real Jetson on the bench without buying Thor or Spark. Wrong if you think $249 buys a 70B workstation.

What it actually runs

• Comfortable: 1B–4B class LLMs and VLMs.
• Possible: 7B–8B at hard quantization if the OS and KV cache still fit in 8GB.
• The real job: vision transformers, camera pipelines, Isaac / ROS. Language models are a bonus.

Honest verdict

Buy it to learn JetPack and put AI on a robot or a camera. Do not buy it as a local ChatGPT replacement.
